Melvin Gene Bottoms, known as Gene, age 82 of Shelbyville, formally of Perryville, died Wednesday, February 27, 2013 at his residence. He was the widower of Anna Will Gibson Bottoms.
Born January 12, 1931 in Washington County, he was a son of the late Richard and Willie Chole Pope Bottoms.
Gene was a member of Beech Grove Baptist Church, a retired State of Kentucky employee, having worked as a guard at Northpoint Training Center, he had taught carpentery at Danville Youth Development Center and had been a carpenter. He was also an army verteran having served in the Korean War.
Gene enjoyed watching Nascar and U.K. basketball. He also loved playing the lottery.
Survivors include two sons, Nelson Bottoms of Shelbyville and Morgan and his wife Cassie Bottoms of Lincoln County. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.
Services for Gene will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 2, 2013, Wilder Funeral Home, by Rev. Bobby Estes with burial in the Hillcrest Cemetery.
Visiting hours will be Friday, March 1, 2013, Wilder Funeral Home, 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Pallbearers will be William Graves, Bobby Burchett, Ritchie, Caleb and Harvey Bottoms and Sam Beck.
